Ya’at’eeh (Hello)! My name is Erica Nelson, I am Navajo and grew up near the four corners in New Mexico. I have lived in several western states, including many wild remote towns, and in two National Parks. I am full of laughter, passion, and creative ideas. I’ve committed myself to pursuing meaningful work; if am not having fun or not working towards a productive goal, I make sure to do something about it.

I consider myself a fly-fishing addict, pro disc golfer, ok snowboarder, terrified whitewater boater, seasoned traveler, expert glamper, awkward reverend, and a for sure workaholic.

What I love about my life: After a major mishap of getting lost for seven days on my first backpacking trip in Alaska, I quickly immersed myself in outdoor education. I dedicated my vocation to gaining the proper training to educate and influence others how to ethically navigate the wilderness and mitigate risks. I earned a B.A. in Psychology and Outdoor Adventure Leadership from Sierra Nevada College, Lake Tahoe where I got to lead student expeditions, instruct skiing, and create curriculum. I have become an independent outdoor adventure guide, and instruct whitewater river and backpacking trips for various organizations.

I maintain a good work-life balance and value the work-life experiences; which include anything from leading a marketing team, managing a boutique hotel, and waiting tables. I am proud of my multifaceted career as the experience continually refines my life skills. My work has provided the opportunity to live in the most beautiful places in the world that warrant the annoying #iLiveWhereYouVacation

On many occasions, I’ve been “thrown” into adverse situations that only helped refined my leadership skills. These experiences have helped launch the co-founding of REAL (Reconcile, Evolve, Advance, Lead) Consulting. My business partner and I are passionate at providing diversity, equity, access, and inclusion training for anyone-from individuals to higher education partners, corporate and nonprofit executives, and outdoor guides. There is a real need for inclusive marketing strategy that go beyond checking a box. There are also diverse complexities when you manage people.

I take having fun and learning everything about everything, seriously. My life philosophy is, “I don’t f**k around, but when I do, I don’t f**k around.”
